Build Identifier:
Cannot set up account since application won't accept host name.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Try to set up mail account & use this particular server name
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Can't access server
Expected Results:
accept this hostname
I have the same behaviour of TB 0.8 when trying to add pop3.poczta.onet.pl.
Basically I have these problems with all hostnames. Earlier I could add my
accounts normally.
In my profile I have already configured couple of accounts and they work fine.

I am experiencing this same problem. While creating a new account, I get the
error alert "Please enter a valid hostname" when I attempt to progress beyond
the Server information dialogue box. I am completely stuck at this point. The
server type is POP3 and the hostname is pop.ipa.net What's up?
From the support forum: "Can you confirm with your ISP what your POP3 server
name is supposed to be, the SMTP server you are supposed to be using and your
username?
***I have confirmed them and they are the same ones I have been using for
several years.
Q. What operating system are you using?
***Microsoft XP Professional with SP 1 installed.
Q. At what point of the account setup process do you receive the "Please enter a
valid hostname" message?
***It occurs when I try to click "next" on the "server information" dialogue
box, no matter what I enter into the "incoming server" textbox.
Q. Do you have any other Thunderbird accounts using that mail server?
***I do not.
Q. Can you workaround the bug by creating an account using other values, and
after its created change the server name etc.?
***No, I can't get past the server information dialogue box, no matter what I
enter."
I am also recieving this bug. I am using a POP account. I've talked to my
provider and they verified the server name but had no answer regarding the
hostname. According to them, it should be obtained automatically. However, it
obviously is not. I have deleted and tried to re-create user several times to
make sure all settings are correct. Any information would be greatly
appreciated.

You can resolve this bug, with adding an SMTP account first with same servername. Only after this step you can add a new POP account.

Thunderbird version 2.0.0.0 (20070326):
This bug works for me. I am testing with the same server as in the summary (mail.messagingengine.com). I do not get this error message with my existing profile or a new profile.
Reporter: are you still seeing the "Please enter a valid hostname" error message when trying to setup a mail account?
