Splitter: drag to spring open confusing

1. Click on grippy to close sidebar.
2. Click down on grippy and slowly drag to the right.
The sidebar is drawn open at it's last remembered width, but if you let go of
the mouse, it only opens to the current possition.
Either force the the mouse to move to the full width immediately, or do not draw
the sidebar at the last remembered width.
