I have three IMAP over SSL accounts that are set up in the Mail window, all set
to automatically check for new mail. If the Mail window is open AND OSX is
awaken from a sleep longer than however long the IMAP server's timeout (or TCP
timeout) is, the little colored spinning pie mouse cursor would appear, and OSX
reports "Application Not Responding". Mozilla must be "Force Kill"ed.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Mozilla with Mail window, log into the accounts, etc.
2. Put Mac to sleep. Wait a bit.
3. Wake it up. Looks OK until you try to click on something, then the spinning
pie appears, locking up Mozilla.
Actual Results:  
Mozilla is locked up hard, must kill it to recover.

Expected Results:  
Mail should have saw that the IMAP connections have been timed out, gracefully
reinitiating the IMAP connections, and not lock up all of Mozilla.

1.6 or 1.7a (or anything prior) didn't do this.

Using Thunderbird 0.6 release and nightly builds since, I can confirm this bug
as can others (see mozillazine forums for Thunderbird Bugs).  The original
reporter's description is right on the money.  Having to regress to 0.5 T'bird
to avoid having to kill app after not using for a period.

A couple of of comments and clarifications:

1) bug still exists in 1.7RC1.
2) If my news/mail window is not open, the bug isn't reproducible. 
3) Don't know if it's SSL/TLS related, as I don't have any straight-IMAP
accounts anymore to test with.

Since Thunderbird and NewMail are basically twins... and

Recently Fixed Bugs

Mac OS X fix for Thunderbird hanging when the computer comes out of sleep mode.

This might be fixed...
