This has been discussed in the past, but not in a while as far as I know. As of yet, no bug has been created to assess its viability as a replacement for CVS. The FAQ for Subversion is located here: http://subversion.tigris.org/project_faq.html Biggest issue is whether our current tools (such as mxr) can be made to work on Subversion. There are many enhancements in Subversion such as a filesystem emulation layer that would make writing tools easier, yet we might want to know that for now these tools can be used with SVN's CVS emulation modules. I know that moving to a new set up tools is not good when trying to close in on the release another major version, so this might be something to look at after 2.0 Perhaps it'd be better to test SVN for the webtools trees and Gila since they are not as active. Is it possible that people checking in could checkin to both the CVS tree and an SVN test tree?
I can't imagine that we would try to change tools at this point. Maybe when we're fat with resources, or have some big problem that cant' be solved, or some other factor drives us. I don't see that now, so I am marking closed. if you want to reopen, please assign the bug to someone else, it's not a mozilla.org priority now. mitchell
