2004041809/trunk/W2K, 20040419/trunk/W2K I have "Autocomplete best match" and "Show list" selected in Preferences. When I type "www" fast (faster then first suggested URL should appear), Location Bar will contain "wwwww". If I type "www" slowly (as slow as Autocomplete could suggest URLs), then "www" will be entered correctly. IMHO this is regression on trunk after 1.7 branched.
If this is the same thing I'm seeing in Firefox, then it's highly visible and annoying. This should block the next release.

I can confirm the problem. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040425. I saw it first with Gecko/20040422. One has to type very slow to get the URL right. Typing cvb in a normal matter results in cvvbb. Duplicate of bug 241107? I recommend severity: critical or blocker

AFAIK this bug was introduced after 1.7 was branched, so this bug isn't in 1.7 branch. Reseting blocking1.7 status back.

(In reply to comment #3) > AFAIK this bug was introduced after 1.7 was branched, so this bug isn't in 1.7 > branch. Reseting blocking1.7 status back. OK. I think you are right. Please set severity to a higher level. I don't have the privilege for that. I also recommend to change the summary: URL address input: chars are duplicated / doubled It makes the bug easier to find.

(In reply to comment #3) > AFAIK this bug was introduced after 1.7 was branched, so this bug isn't in 1.7 > branch. Reseting blocking1.7 status back. I Confirm. I crosschecked with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040426 and the bug is not inside.

I'm also getting this in Firefox. It usually doesn't become evident unless my cpu load is high or there are a bunch of autocomplete suggestions. (Such as google.com). Extremely annoying. Makes the browser practically unusable unless its the only thing running. I haven't been able to use recent dailies because of this.

Confirmed. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040426 Firefox/0.8.0+ Microsoft Windows 2000 Pro 5.00.2195 SP4
This is also being discussed in Bug 241447, which is newer but has a patch so marking this as a dupe. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 241447 ***
