User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040207 Firefox/0.8 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040207 Firefox/0.8 In order to reproduce this error, one must be running a recent mozilla build under linux, and have anti-aliased fonts deactivated in one's desktop environment or window manager (in other words, make sure your fonts are NOT anti-aliased in mozilla). Only the first word of any HTML element using the 'letter-spacing' CSS property will appear on the page. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make sure your mozilla or firefox browser isn't showing anti-aliased text (linux only) 2. browse http://www.vroop.com/test.html Actual Results: Only the first word of each line appears (select line with mouse to see all the text). Expected Results: The browser should show the entire line of text.
Your build is rather old - can you try in a later version (ideally a recent nightly)

I tries it with this build: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040505 Firefox/0.8.0+ And got the same results. However, I did notice that the bug isn't reproducible without a XFT enabled build.

On what distribution? This sounds like an upstream bug, probably a dup of bug 190278.

(In reply to comment #4) > On what distribution? This sounds like an upstream bug, probably a dup of bug > 190278. I've tested this on Gentoo Linux 1.4 and Fedore Core 1.

Could someone attach a test case? The test case mentioned in comment 0 returns a 404.

I opened this bug, but I'm no longer able to reproduce it with an XFT enabled build (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050305 Firefox/1.0.1). Turning off anti-aliased fonts still allows me to see all text with letter-spacing set. I should note that I'm using Xorg-X11 now rather than XFree86. I have no idea if that makes a difference, but there you are.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. This bug is still fully present on the 1.8.x branches; the current trunk builds behave slightly differently and much worse: all lines show only the first word, even without the "letter-spacing" property set (see screenshot). I suspect a close junktion between the actual problem and its incarnation in 1.8.x The bug is triggered if: 1. libfreetype has been built with bytecode interpreter enabled 2. antialiasing or sub-pixel hinting is disabled 3. (any) truetype fonts are used. The sceenshot shows an official Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060821 Minefield/3.0a1 build running on a Fedora Core 5 system with rebuilt freetype and basic Microsoft TT fonts (Arial, Time New Roman, Courier New) installed. This bug should be IMHO reopened.
