I have most of my mail filtered into to different folders. It would be very
useful if I could configure the mail notification sound to only play if mail new
mail arrives in a certain folder.
Already, it does not play if Junk mail is received. This is a good start, but
more granularity would be useful.
An example of how this could be configured could be with a right mouse click on
the folder then in "Preferences" you could choose if you want to be notified of
new mail arriving in this folder. Alternately it could be configured for all
folders in the Tools->Options->General tab where mail notification is currently
configured.

This is something that might have made it into Seamonkey, but it all but
certainly won't make Thunderbird because it's an edge case (I don't think any
other client has it) and would introduce UI bloat that would make Thunderbird
more complicated.  I suggest you ask for this as an extension in the Mozillazine
Extensions forum:

This is a duplicate of Bug 224573. That said, a solution to Bug 11040 would
acheive the same thing by allowing the filter to suppress the new mail notification.

Agreed about the dupe, altho if reporter was using Windows or Mac, with the 
new-mail icon and pop-up alert, I could see an argument for a new feature which 
allowed a special action to alert-with-sound on a particular folder or filter 
action, separate from the icon/alert which would show for all normal mail.

Reporter (Leith): I may have duped this bug in error.  Are the filters you're 
using running server-side for an IMAP account, or client-side (IMAP or POP)?
