Thunderbird is lacking the basic functionality to get messages from all e-mail
accounts at the same time. If someone has, for example, 5 e-mail accounts, he
has to click on the "get mail" button five times to check all of the accounts. I
know that there are extensions like Get All Messages and Get All Mail Button,
but IMHO this option should be included in Thunderbird, because lots of people
need it.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set up multiple e-mail accounts in Thunderbird
2. Try to get messages from all of them at once
Actual Results:
You have to select each of the accounts and then click on the "get mail" button.
Try to do this with 5 accounts.
Expected Results:
The "get mail" button should get mail from all of the accounts, not just the
selected one.

I have the same problem. I use 6 mail accounts and it's hard to chceck all of
them at one time. "Get Mail" botton should get messeges from all mail accounts.

th problem is, that this should be a basic function in Tb, not an extension
(In reply to comment #3)

OK, so why not remove the functionality to send/receive e-mails altogether and
make another extension that would bring it back?
(In reply to comment #3)
> you can also just download the get all mail message extension
this BASIC functionality have to be accessible out-of-the-box.
i mean - why not? if someone is using ony one account he won't see ANY
difference. if someone has more than one account i bet he'll be pleased. i can't
imagine a reason why not to check all accounts in the same time...

You could also just download the Offline Support extension, but that got rolled
into the default builds. Granted, it was done as a pre-installed extension; but
that same treatment would be a satisfactory 'worksforme' resolution for this
annoying bug.
I mean, really, the functionality is already there via the CTRL-Shift-T
shortcut. The get all messages extension just adds a tiny UI element. On top
of that, it's far more trivial, and far more widely useful than the Offline
Support extension. No excuse not to _at the very least_ treat it the same as
the Offline Support extension and make it installed-by-default as well.

seeing as Scott added "DUPEME": looks like this is actually a dupe of bug
218296, but that's WONTFIX. See also bug 125885, which is the same thing for
Seamonkey.

I do not agree that Get Mail should get mail from all accounts, as sometimes one
only wants to get mail from the primary account one uses, particularly if
another account is for low-priority mail lists, or the PC is not set up for
various users, but instead all the family's accounts are on a single TB
installation.
So there should be really two GETs, one to Get Mail on the selected account, and
a Get All Mail, which would get mail on all accounts.
Seems perfectly obvious to me that this would make everybody happy.
Just look at Agent (Get all, get selected, get marked, etc...), for heaven's
sakes, if that's not considered swearing...

IMO it would be better to let the users configure wheter the Get Mail button
should get mail from all accoutns, or only the selected one. That would satisfy
both sides.

We've got a customizable toolbar, so let the user drag an "get all" button to
his toolbar if he wants, in addition to or instead of the current "get mail" button.

Why not similar to Mozilla Mail with a drop down list of accounts to get
messages from (including all)?

That's exactly what most seem to want -- the same functionality as Mozilla
Mail/News. Not sure why it was left out of Thunderbird in the first place.

But why not make a "Get All" button, as proposed in comment #11? It's a perfect
solution for both groups.

The Mozilla-like Get New for All Accounts button is standard as of TB 0.8, so
duping (as per Scott's DUPEME note).
Some people may still want a button that performs the Get New for All function
on a single click. There are problems with that design (just how do you handle
the click when reading newsgroups?-- some will *still* want the click to get new
mail, some will want the click to continue getting new messages for the group),
but that shouldn't be insurmountable. Anyway: please open a new bug for that
feature. See Seamonkey bug 125885.
