Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 0.6 (20040502)
When viewing email in Original HTML format, no images are displayed. There are
graphics place holders displayed in their place. I have toggled every
preference refering to HTML including the junk mail controls. This was present
in v0.5 also.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. View>Message Body As>Original HTML
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Graphics place holders appear instead of the graphic.
Expected Results:
Graphic should display in their proper place in the HTML formatted email.
Tools->Options->Advanced and uncheck "Block loading of remote images in mail
messages".
I should add that in recent builds (about the last week or so) the logic of this
option has been inverted, i.e. UNchecking it blocks, checking doesn't. Is this
by design? If so, then the wording of the checkbox label needs changing.

Is this related to Bug#243852? It seems to fit.
I am seeing the same in WindowsXP + version 0.6+ (20040523)
Fixed in 20040525; but still has unpleasant artifacts.
I've seen this problem on Win XP Prof, so it must not be just a Mac thing.

version 0.7+ (20040625) on Windows XP
_Seems_ to be working in this version.
I haven't gotten any opportunities to test this on .7.3 yet, but I've noticed
with .5, sometimes this problem is resolved by toggling on the view>display
attachments inline option. In our company, we've been unchecking that option
because some of our employees receive large image attachments that don't load
properly when they're trying to load inline. But unchecking this option
sometimes seems to make the html images not show up in emails.
I did just find an html email with images in it that I could test on version
0.7.3 (20040803) & toggling on & off the display attachments inline option
made the pictures appear & disappear. So that problem still exists. There
may be other image problems that changing the display attachments inline
option does not resolve. If there's an opportunity for me to test this, I'll
add some more comments.

This bug was originally reported on Mac; looks like one other reporter has seen
this on Windows...?
I'm curious if the new-to-0.8 feature of automatically blocking images per-
message, with whitelisting on the address book, has essentially made this
problem go away...? I never saw the symptom, myself.

No response from reporter(s), -> WFM.
Feel free to reopen if there is still a problem (in which case, providing a
sample message would be useful).

I'm adding a print screen of an email that one of our employees is receiving
(using version 1.0.2 (20050317)), which is still having this problem. Please
re-open this bug.

Was that snapshot taken after the program had a chance to complete loading? I
ask because the status bar at the bottom of the window looks like it's "in
progress."
I am seeing some but not all images loaded. However, if I copy the image URL
from the source, and remove the "= \n" text used to encode the long line as
quoted-printable, I'm getting a 404 error from the server, on these two from the
top of the message:
<http://www.americawest.com/images/email/lastminute_header.jpg>
<http://www.americawest.com/images/email/trans_gif.gif>
The ad-column image on the right is loading for me.

The user experiencing this problem told me that it acts like it's trying to
load but never fully loads. He also has the same problem on emails from
United Way (& possibly a few other emails, but I'm not sure about that). If I
remember right, with the United Way emails, we are able to copy the image
location & get it to open in Internet Explorer...they just don't show up in
Thunderbird. We have had other users with this problem of loading images.
Some of the problems were resolved by going into Tools>Options>Advanced &
entering info in "manual proxy configuration". Normally we default to
use "direct connetion to the internet". Changing that setting didn't fix the
problem in this case though. We are using IMAP, Windows XP Pro, & currently
have Thunderbird version 1.0.2 (20050317). This user has been having this
problem for over a year now. I hope this information helps. Let me know if
you need any additional info. Thanks.
