Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040602 Firefox/0.8.0+ Build Identifier: version 0.6+ (20040602) I have some issues surrounding the unread message gounter in the newsgroup summary. I only get it sometimes, but the unread message counter goes completely wrong. This can happen when I left click on a newsgroup which is not currently highlighted which shows unread messages (for which I have not yet downloaded the bodies), then immediately right click and select Get Messages for Account. If this happens the counter can change and then when I have read all messages outstanding the counter is no longer 0. I can sometimes zero the counter by marking all messages as read, but next time it refreshes itself it goes wrong again. Last time it happened, in the message pane I had the little green bits on the message thread icon and messages underlined. I even had headers in bold but I could not read any of the messages, mark anything as read or clear the green icon. The only solution is to unsubscribe from the newsgroup. I then have to be very careful re-subscribing as the counter can go wrong again. I have the flags set not to download read messages, messages over 30 days old, keep only messages and bodies less than 30 days old. I subscribe to the newsgroup then click on the newsgroup, then Mark By Date anything up to yesterday. If I vary things by exiting TB before marking by date, or trying to get messages before the headers have downloaded things can go wrong with the counter which may only manifest themselves at the next check server for messages cycle. I am afraid I cannot be more specific as I have a slow connection and I have not been able to isolate the issues or produce consistant errors. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.See description above 2. 3.
Just tried some more. 1 - Delete newsgroup and re-subscribe 2 - Click on newsgroup. Counter goes to 90 with messages back into March. 3 - Exit and re-start TB. Counter goes to 51 4 - Mark Newsgroup as read. Counter goes to 0 5 - Get Messages for account. Counter goes to 39 (90 - 51) but no threads show with unread messages. I now have to unsubscribe and resubscribe to correct the counter. Selecting the newsgroup sets thecounter to 0 but the next time the server is checked the counter goes back to 39. This is one of the problems isolated, I think. The one about doing Get Messages for Account immediately after selecting account is harder to pin down.

Is this really a dupe of 245044? That seems to be a bug in the use of IMAP which obviously wouldn't cause a problem with news.
