Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/125.2 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/125.7 Build Identifier: Thunderbird/0.6 I have an imap account. The password expired so log-in failed (couldn't log in to my.mail.server). I changed / reset the password, but whenever I tried to convince thunderbird to read the mailbox I received the same message. TB didn't provide a password prompt; rather it would just display fail messages 4 times. I finally broke this lock-out by deleting the old password entry from the password manager, which reset the password, prompting for it. Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce Steps to Reproduce: Tried to reproduce but could not. System password was changed, but thunderbird still claimed it could successfully read mailbox. Might be due to lag time in propagating password? In theory, reproducing is: 1. Change system password and disable access to mailbox. Actual Results: Thunderbird should fail to log in, and prompt for new password. Expected Results: Thunderbird reported 4 times that it failed to log in, then gave up.
(In reply to comment #0) Uh, swap actual and expected results.
Although this bug was reported first, I believe that it should now be marked as a duplicate of Bug 249240 because Bug 249240 contains significant discussion of the problem.
Also applies to Mozilla (1.7)and PC. Passwort prompt for SMTP works, but not for IMAP (Cyrus/Exim). Did work in Mozilla 1.7 RC1.
