Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040608 Firefox/0.8
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040608 Firefox/0.8
I downloaded the Firefox 0.9 release from the link claiming to be for that
release, the file is named "FirefoxSetup-0.9rc.exe", but every installer screen
says that it's Firefox 0.8. And, after installation, when I click About in the
Help menu, it says Firefox 0.8+. If this is a release candidate, the installer
and About screens should be showing the correct version number.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download the Firefox release candidate for Windows (FirefoxSetup-0.9rc.exe)
2. Run the installer, noting the versions displayed.
3. After installation, click on the Help > About menu option.
Actual Results:
Installer screens and About Mozilla Firefox display Firefox 0.8. Also, the
Release Notes say it's version 0.8.
Expected Results:
Very confusing. I expected the installer screens and Firefox's About menu to
show that the version installed is Firefox 0.9.

0.9 rc is not 0.9, once we have 0.9 it will say so, 0.8+ is half correct, as a
rc is still a developer version, I don't disagree with the overall thought of
the bug though, Marking new; OS-All; Hardware-All

Saying that this is a "release candidate", I would expect, means that this
version could be the released version, without alteration, if deemed good enough
for release. If changes are made to the release candidate, including any
changes in installer screens or About Mozilla Firefox screens, then it should be
subject to yet another release candidate cycle. The released version should not
require any changes in the installer or product, except that perhaps the
filename for the convenience of downloaders. At least this has been the
practice at the last two software companies I've worked at. Personally, I'd
have no problem with this release candidate, if it at least had the correct
versions listed everywhere using resource bundles to specify the version. But,
for most companies, even this would be deemed too risky.
I was totally confused by what I had installed, and I thought I knew what I was
doing. I had to recheck the filename and where I'd downloaded it from. If I
was confused, I'm sure many others will be too. If someone installs this
version, doesn't remember what was installed, and checks the about screen, it
looks like a production release of Firefox 0.8, not a 0.9 release.
