(Reporter: jmprange, Assigned: mscott)
Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040620 Firefox/0.9.0+ Mnenhy/0.6.0.101
Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 0.7 (20040616)
For newsgroup posts, View message source results in blank message source window.
Note that view message source works when online, but seems to download the
message form the server instead of using the already downloaded copy. Note that
I can view the source by copying the post to a local folder, and then using view
source on that.
Similar to #217503?
I'm currently using: Thunderbird version 0.7 (20040616)
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Select downloaded newsgroup post while offline.
2.Click on View -> Message source, or use Ctrl-U from keyboard.
3.
Actual Results:
Blank view message source window.
Expected Results:
Displayed source of the post.

I think I can add some further info about this bug, based on observation of
behaviour of various Netscape/Mozilla/Thunderbird releases rather than
looking at code.
(1) The bug is not specific to Windows 98 (I have seen similar behaviour under
Linux)
(2) I _believe_ it is part of a more general problem whereby the newsreader
frequently wants to re-fetch message content when it should not need to.
For instance, when offline, if you try to view an attachment on a message which
has been downloaded, this fails.
If you try to view an attachment to post which has already been downloaded
when online, the post is fetched from the news server a second time.
If you have the reader configured to view attachments inline, then the post
is still fetched twice - after the first fetch, the textual content appears,
and after the second fetch, the attachment appears inline.
I was painfully aware of this behaviour when using early Mozilla releases
over a dialup line some years back. I have yet to confirm whether it is
still present in Thunderbird 0.8

Confirming on Thunderbird 1.0.1 (20050213) and the trunk (20050217) using
Windows XP.
Unfortunately, I don't have permission to change the OS. :-(
