This annoyance bugs me regularly in the Netscape 3 and 4 series as well, I was hoping that it wouldn't show up in Mozilla as well. :-( Condition: Select a file to download, and then select the "Save As" button on the dialog that states that Mozilla does not recognize the mime type. Note that the correct file name appears in the Save-As dialog. Now change directories, by moving up or down a subdirectory in any method provided by the dialog. Expected Behaviour: The correct file name REMAINS at the bottom of the dialog and the dialog shows the correct information for the entered subdirectory. In otherwords, the file name that you are going to save the file as is NOT affected by directory changes. Only the path changes. Current Behaviour (as of 2000012309): The file name is CLEARED (disappears) from the bottom of the dialog whenever the user moves to a new subdirectory. This is QUITE annoying...in Netscape 4.06, it means that I end up clicking on something that I want to download TWICE...the first time to set the correct directory to download to, and then cancel out of the dialog, the second time to actually download the file. I realize this might be a GTK++ issue..if it is, I'll lodge my complaint with them too, and work on creating a file dialog box that allows items to PERSIST though subdirectory changes.
Putting on pdt- radar. Annoying, but not critical to everyday use.

Putting dogfood in the keyword field.

Summary: [ANNOYING][Dogfood(?)] Changing directory CLEARS filename when downloading. → [ANNOYING] Changing directory CLEARS filename when downloading.
This looks like a duplicate of bug 3025.
This is indeed a DUP of bug 3025, "file selection dialog forgets filenames on chdir", ASSIGNED, M16. That bug has been added to the list at bug 26480, "[Tracking] linux: Need to redesign the native file picker", where the intent seems to be to redesign that dialog to make it more functional and less annoying. Marking as DUP, cc-ing german@netscape.com on 3025, and moving "dogfood" keyword to 3025. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 3025 ***
