Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040626 Firefox/0.9.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040626 Firefox/0.9.1
The function 'select new tabs opened from links' doesn't affect 'Web search for $'.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Tools --> Options --> Advance --> mark: select new tabs opened from links.
2. Open mozilla.org and make a selection.
3. Right click the selection and use: Search web for $
Actual Results:
The link opened in a tab with no focus.
Expected Results:
The link should open in a tab with focus.
I have the dictionary plugin installed. When i make a selection and then use:
'Dictionary search for $' the function works according to how i set the 'select
tabs opened from links' in preferences.

Confirming - Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7)
Gecko/20040712 Firefox/0.9.1+
It would be nice to see some comments from Linux or Mac users as I suspect this
affects all OS's.

As a "correctness" note, searching on text isn't a "link" at all. Neither is it
history or bookmarks, which is why it isn't using either of those prefs.
Severity: minor → enhancement

Even if it does not fall under one of those categories shouldn't there be a
preference for it? Even if it's not integrated into the UI, I think there still
needs to be a way to configure it.

I think it works okay now (people who want links to open in a selected new tab
also want the search to open that way).
Perhaps renaming "Select new tabs opened from links" into "Select new tabs" will
also fix the confusion.
