User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040626 Firefox/0.9.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040626 Firefox/0.9.1 If the browser was closed in offline mode, clicking on some dynamicly updated link in e-mail doesn't open that page, as far as I could test it (there is small possibility that this happens because of my unrelaible link). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Switch Firefox to offline mode 2. Exit Firefox 3. find some dynamicly updated link in some e-mail and click on it (tested on Thunderbird 7.0, mail from bugzilla about bug change) Actual Results: It seems that site is loading (indicator is rotating), but actually nothing happens. If I switch online manually enter the address, everything works fine. Expected Results: Site is loaded (better) or I am asked to switch online, or at least I get message that page cannot be opened because I am offline I've recently reported bug 251756, probalbly the best way to solve this bug is by solving that bug. Still, it is not necessary to solve that bug to solve this bug. I guess that that means they're not dependent. If I am wrong someone will correct me.
This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20050927 (No IDN) Firefox/1.4 ID:2005092706 This is still reproducable. In the worse case you should get the message that browser is offline, thought this is the worse possible solution. Better solution is, as user intention is clear, to switch to on-line mode, and probably the best solution is bug 251756, as it is reasonable not to remember off-line state accross sessions.

(In reply to comment #2) More inclusive title could read: No error message for stalled/failed opening of startup link (homepage or provided by command line/other application) upon restart after offline mode Also reproducable for Fx 1.5rc3 : Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 Upon second programme start (first one after setting offline mode) status bar indicates "Looking up en-us.start.mozilla.com..." instead of displaying error for blank/new profile (not even timeout message at later stage). In contrast, when opening any nonlocal links in offline mode a proper error message is shown. ==> Lack in consistency. Suggest to confirm message: status to NEW. Do not agree with suggestion of bug 251756 that Fx should forget offline mode upon exit. That's what a profile is for, to save settings from one start to the next. Any further / developer comments?
SeaMonkey 1.5a and Mozilla 1.7.12 handle these cases fine / according to suggested handling (error message) in earlier comment.

Summary: cannot open link from mail if Firefox was closed in offline mode → No error message for stalled/failed opening of startup link upon restart after offline mode
It appears there has been some silent solution to this problem. Haven't found an openly published fix. Now: WFM. Firefox 1.5.0.1 ID:2006011112. Descr.: An error message is now shown (equals standard message for other cases) >>> Offline mode Firefox is currently in offline mode and can't browse the Web. * Uncheck "Work Offline" in the File menu, then try again. <<< However, if you see this problem in a recent build of Mozilla, feel free to return and ask for this bug to be reopened. Marking WORKSFORME.

It appears the standard for Fx now is to open in online mode, irrespective of settings before a previous shutdown. Since this renders the bug neither INVALID nor FIXED: WORKSFORME? Firefox 2.0.0.3 ID:2007030919, WinXP sp2, en-gb
