User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-DE; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.3 Build Identifier: 0.7.3 Please add an option to close the original message window when replying. Does not necessarily have to be in the program itself for the beginning, a user.js feature would be okay as well. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. Please re-open this one. It would be a great feature. My screen keeps getting cluttered by email messages I have already replied to. There is no way to see that I have already replied, other than going back to the inbox. Outlook used to do this before I switched to Thunderbird and I very much miss this feature. Please, Please, Please.

In lieu of a feature, does anyone know of an add-on that does this? (I have searched for one.) Thanks!
Would be great if the original message window would close on ALL of the following actions: - delete - forward - reply - reply to all - junk - no junk It's really annoying having to close the original message window manually after having replied/forwarded etc.
I totally agree. I wish they would stop ignoring this one. You have to vote on it at the top to bring attention to it. This one and the bug for duplicate eMails in the address book because it is case sensitive annoy me a lot.

This one and the bug for duplicate > eMails in the address book because it is case sensitive annoy me a lot. It's important to remember that "they" are people who volunteer their time. This may be an important feature, but you're not winning any points by alienating programmers.

Yup, I agree. My apologies. On the other hand, after being ignored politely for five years I cannot imagine that there is anything I could say or do that would make a difference at this point. ----------------- To the people responsible for the core, patches have been submitted to solve this for years. Please impliment them. To the people that maintain the code for bugzilla... Please improve this system. Duplicate tickets should count as votes, and votes on those duplicate tickets should be ported over (If they are not already) and the voting system should be made more clear. I did not even know it existed for years. Just because a bug does not have massive votes does not mean it should be ignored for SEVEN YEARS! To anyone who has ever been involved with Thunderbird in any way, your efforts are appreciated by me. I think that the Thunderbird concept is amazing and with the right plugins it beats any other eMail client by far... Thank you.
Oh sorry, I got this one confused with another bug. But most of it still applies. Why is the status of this bug still unconfirmed after all this time? Do you not just have to hit reply to confirm it?

You are correct.(In reply to comment #12) > There are no patches anywhere afaikt. You are correct. I thought I was responding to a comment on the bug about case sensitive checking on the address book. I am sorry if that was confusing. It was late and I cannot find a way to modify my comment.

I'll add my voice to wanting this as a native feature. I've been able to use the changeQuote add-on to do this some of the time, but there have been times when an update to the TB/BB causes some add-ons to no longer be compatible, and then the feature is not available and we are dependent on the add-on creator to provide an update. Many add-ons are not maintained long term or take a long time to be updated for the latest TB/BB version, and so the risk of intermittently losing functionality provided only by an add-on is high over time.

TB/BB have an existing option to close the message window/tab on forward or delete. It would seem adding this existing functionality to the reply action would be something that could reuse this existing code and just adding another trigger.

In any event, I want to add my vote to this one to hopefully keep it alive.
