User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040714
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040714

My personal toolbar just contains the home button and a bookmarks folder icon. I
can now no longer create a link to the right of the bookmarks icon. When I drag
and drop, it looks like the link is picked up and looks like it enables the drop
on the personal toolbar but not on other areas (the site navigation bar for
example when the circle with the line appears). I can add items to the bookmarks
folder, just can not drag and drop to create items to the right of it.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
WORKSFORME
Mozilla 1.8a3 build 2004080908 under XP Pro SP1a here.

Try these steps:

1- Bookmarks/Manage Bookmarks...Ctrl+B
2- Create a new Bookmark folder and name it "PersonalBar Bookmark folder"
3- View/Set as Personal Toolbar Folder; when selected, in use, the "Set as
Personal Toolbar Folder" menuitem should become dimmed, grayed out.

You can read Help/Help Contents/Contents tab/Customizing Mozilla/
and then:
- Bookmarks/Creating New Bookmarks/
- Toolbars/Personal Toolbar/Adding Personal Toolbar Bookmarks and Adding
Bookmark Folders to the Personal Toolbar

If the problem still persists, then try with a recent build.

Thanks, that works. I guess it now becomes a usability issue. It is extremely
un-user friendly for someone to be able to inadvertently get into the situation
I was in by managing my bookmarks, and then have to perform these rather arcane
steps to get fairly standard functionality back up and running.
First of all, thanks for getting back to me on my comment. I had the very same
problem myself about 2 years ago. I read carefully the
Help/Help Contents/Contents tab/Customizing Mozilla/Toolbars/Personal
Toolbar/Adding Personal Toolbar Bookmarks
file and I'm convinced the instructions in there could be improved.

I entirely agree with your usability and un-user friendly comment.
MSIE 6 has a Links bar and such toolbar is pre-created by the browser and is
pre-set to be, to act as the Personalbar receiving dragged bookmarks. If
Mozilla's interface already names such toolbar as the "Personal Toolbar" or
"Personalbar", then I don't understand why the Manage Bookmarks window does not
allocate+create+preset a permanent (non-deletable) "Personal Toolbar bookmarks
folder" from where one could see his bookmarks and not be prevented to drag
bookmarks on it.
