When I start Firefox, I get the message "www.google.com could not be found. Please check name and try again". After that message, I can open any URL, or click on my Home-Button. This only happens, when I am using a proxy server. If I remove the proxy server from the settings, or take an internal URL as my homepage, it works. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Setup homepage 2. Setup proxy server 3. Start Firefox Actual Results: www.google.com could not be found. Please check name and try again Expected Results: Google should be displayed
I did further testing and this problem only occurs, if proxy auto-configuration is enabled. This is not dependant on the complexity of the the proxy configuration script, I tried a minimal one and had the same problem. This may be a duplicate of bug 239812. As I understand bug 239812, it is related to a specific URL, but comments in this bug describe the same problem I have here.

Confirming based on duplicate Bug 254881 and Bug 239812 comment 6 (looks like the bug as a whole is about something else). According to Bug 239812 comment 6 this affects the suite as well so moving to: -> Browser:Networking p.s. I find it hard to believe this hasn't already been filed somewhere but I can't find anything.

V/dupe. The FF version is bug 239812. I'm tired of getting FF dupes in the mozilla bugs, so I reopened it as a dependency.
