User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040623 Camino/0.8 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040623 Camino/0.8 Problem: Large TIFF images such as those used to display patents in the US PTO (www.uspto.gov) display incorrectly. Symptom: Instead of displaying the full image, Camino displays only a porttion of the image near the top, or sometimes nothing. Camino does not crash, and the "broken image" icon are not displayed. Workaround: The following sometimes works. Wait a few seconds (broadband). Navigate to anothher page. Then press the backk button to return to the page with the large TIFF image. The TIFF image now displays correctly. This is more likely to work with drawings than with images of scanned text. Theory: Maybe the QT plugin is started before the image has finished downloading. perhaps a soluton woud be to notify the QT plugin to update its display (if such a thing is possible) or to delay starting the QT plugin until after the image has finished loading. The fact that the workaround works only sometimes (works with drawings, usually not with text) suggests there may be a further problem with image size. text images would have larger compressed size. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to problem URL Actual Results: The QT icon briefly appeared, as normal. Then a blank image appeared. Expected Results: An image showing a scanned copy of a page of a patent should appear in the bottom right frame. This has been reported before as: 160261, 180898, and 187421. however, all of these refer to crashes or outright failure to load the image. I think that these are now fixed but partial loading of the image is a new issue.
It crashed, when Re-load the page of URL. Mac OS X 10.3.5 trunk build 2004081402 (v0.8+)

Yes, the same bug is observed in Firefox, and the same workaround works. Safari has a different behaviour: It displays the images at their native resolution, which is several megapixels, so you get a relatively useless scrollable view of part of the image.

I agree with the above. Searching patents is useless without the availability of these images. Hopefully open source can fix this problem.
Is this a dupe of bug 187421?

(In reply to comment #6) > Is this a dupe of bug 187421? The symptom is different. In 187421 you got a "broken image" icon. Now you get a partly rendered image. I'm guessing that someone 'fixed' 187421 and uncovered this bug.

Another problem URL: http://patimg1.uspto.gov/.piw?docid=US006845839&PageNum=2&IDKey=9A8C47028318&HomeUrl=http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2%2526Sect2=HITOFF%2526u=/netahtml/search-adv.htm%2526r=2%2526p=1%2526f=G%2526l=50%2526d=ptxt%2526S1=Borroni-Bird.INZZ.%2526OS=IN/(Borroni-Bird)%2526RS=IN/Borroni-Bird I personally used AlternaTIFF: (http://www.alternatiff.com/) for IE. U.S. Patent office recommands this or InterneTIFF: (http://www.internetiff.com/). Until this is fixed, I have to generate the URLs on FoxFire, and then copy them to IE.
