* Summary: Mozilla build 2000-01-28-08 is displaying, at least, and possibly submitting, the first item on a <SELECT>, rather than the SELECTED item. Very visible on Bugzilla show_bug.cgi pages. * Steps to reproduce: 0. View bug 25351 in Netscape Navigator 4.x 1. Launch Mozilla 2000-01-28-08 (Win32 or Linux) 2. View bug 25351 in Mozilla 3. Click on the down-arrow at the end of any of the <SELECT> form controls at the top of the page, say "Platform" 4. Click on the down-arrow again * Actual Results: The displayed item for each of the <SELECTS> at the top of the page when it is initially viewed will be the first item, not the SELECTED item; for example, Mozilla will show "All" fro Platform while NN 4.7 show "Macintosh". The only <SELECT> that shows the correct item is Component, where "ActiveX Wrapper" is changed to "Browser-General" after a moment. In step 3, the SELECTED item is shown highlighted, and in step 4 it is still shown after the list has been collapsed, in place of the first item. * Expected Results: Mozilla will show the bug report <SELECT>s the same as NN 4.7; steps 3 and 4 will be surplufuous. * Does Not Work Correctly With: 2000-01-28-08-M14 nightly binary on Windows NT 4.0sp3 2000-01-28-08-M14 nightly binary on Linux custom Slackware, fvwm2 * Works Correctly With: M13 release on Windows NT 4.0sp3 NN 4.7 on Windows NT 4.0sp3
Sad to say, but this *can* cause data loss and corruption in Mozilla's Bugzilla database: see bug 25625 for an example. This is not just a display issue. Tested this also with another form; same results. This is probably a bigger problem for forms other than Bugzilla's show_bug.cgi forms: with the latter, now that there is an "Architecture" Product, submitting the form will bring up a Product change page, which *should* prevent most people from plowing ahead and messing up the variables. Other forms may not have this sort of checking. Updating Summary from "2000012808 displaying first, not SELECTED item in <SELECT>" to "2000012808 submitting first, not SELECTED item in <SELECT>"
Severity: major → critical
Summary: 2000012808 displaying first, not SELECTED item in <SELECT> → 2000012808 submitting first, not SELECTED item in <SELECT>

Rechecked with 2000-01-28-12-M14 on WinNT, this seems fixed entirely. Looks like this was an annoying one-build regression.
Yes, we had this for one build. marking fixed
