I used to do this in Sylpheed by selecting the text to be quoted in the mail-read view and then hitting reply. I kinda miss that feature in Thunderbird. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select text while reading an email 2. Hit reply button Actual Results: The full email is quoted Expected Results: Only the selected text should be quoted.
I believe this is a duplicate of Bug 23394. Reporter (Jonas): Please take a look at Bug 23394 and mark this bug as a duplicate if you agree that it is.

Yes, bug 23394 is pretty much the same, although for a different component, so I am not shure if it's duplicate then... This bug could be fixed with an extension in thunderbird, dunno about mozilla mail/news. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 23394 ***
