When you click a link, it's target attribute is removed for these specific file extensions: .zip .rar .exe .tar .jar .xpi .gzip .gz .ace .bin You can also customise this extension to add or remove extensions by typing about:config into the address bar, finding the "disabletarget.extensions" preference, and changing the value. In lamens terms, this stopped everyone (any browser) opening new windows or tabs for their mails, new mails, etc. This extension is the solution, until either they revert back, or change again, thus breaking this extension. Each button's default function can be set for a normal click. Holding CTRL when clicking, or middle clicking, will activate the other available function for that button. Image Toolbar 0.4 for Firefox provides the following buttons: Save - You can set this to either prompt you to save or to automatically save to a previously chosen directory. Jed, I didn't realise that long descriptions are clipped on update.mozilla.org, since on ER, there's a short and long description. Can you please update two of the descriptions, and I'll handle the futher explanation on my homepage when it's finished. ** Disable Targets For Downloads ** <em:id>{FF380879-E2AA-4E2D-A348-99B9CBD7D3C0}</em:id> Description for UMO: Prevents sites spawning blank windows when clicking binary downloads. ** Image Toolbar ** <em:id>{A4732521-77D9-447E-A557-B279AC923F06}</em:id> Description for UMO: Single-click access to common actions for Images (e.g. saving and copying) There's no rush, though. A couple more updates... don't worry, after this I'll go away and work on some more things for a few weeks before I come back again! I've released a new version of Disable Targets For Downloads and I've tweaked the Hotmail Tabs UMO description because it was being clipped, like the others. ** Hotmail Tabs ** <em:id>{3974D7C3-9D72-42B0-B5B2-4F7260CBD057}</em:id> Description for UMO: Microsoft, for some reason, changed Hotmail's link handling so that it was done entirely through JavaScript. Moving these off my list of code bugs, I'll work on them as I get time, and i'm working on getting some more editors to help out. :-) These need to be verified to work properly with the 1.0PR / latest-nightly (if it's for 1.0RC1). Feel free to test and comment, that'll help speed up the process.

Thanks for the quick update... I have another issue though. Apparently UMO is serving up a version of Disable Targets For Downloads which has the version set to 0.5 in the install manifest. The latest XPI on my server lists the version as 0.7, so I'm not sure how this is occurring. Is UMO linking to a mirror of my XPI or caching it in some way? I couldn't figure out who's in the wrong... if I've screwed up, please let me know... but I can't see anything wrong at my end.

Reopening again... Alan, can you shed any light on why UMO is serving an older version of Disable Targets For Downloads... the version on cusser.net is 0.7, and the install.rdf has been updated to reflect this. I downloaded the file a few minutes ago to verify. If I need to do anything, let me know, but I'm getting a lot of feedback about this issue and I have no idea where to start!

The file didn't get mirrored properly, it's a known bug in the update system. I've pushed your file to the ftp. but at this time, I'm unable to update the DB to reflect the new filename (disabletarget_0.7.xpi not disabletarget.xpi) because of a server load issue. Once that's cleared up I'll update the DB and the problem should be solved.

Is this in the queue as the status whiteboard suggests? If so, thanks. If not, would it be possible to get this sorted out pretty soon? I'm not sure that the extension XPIs which are being mirrored are compatible with Firefox 1.0, although all of my extensions are.

Yes, I uploaded these today. Once the queue gets approved, they'll show up on the site and mirrors.
Thanks Alan. If any of my other extensions need updating I'll comment in the next few days. Every XPI listed under my UMO profile should be compatible with 1.0, so if any others are failing to install I'll post back. The latest copies are (as usual) available from my homepage.

Status whiteboard cleared, got it. Can you update the XPIs for Context Highlight, Foobar Controls and Translate Page please? Er, that certainly wasn't intentional. Can you switch it over in the copy you have and I'll update the copy on my server.
Alan, can't see any change on my currently hosted version to what I think was the original GUID. In any case, if you use whichever you want, I can make any necessary changes.

I have no idea how this happened. I'll get UMO updated. Comment 0 {ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384} XPI {ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384} UMO {8051A235-3BDB-4450-9C02-8CD8C6F9E2CB} ftp.mozilla.org {ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}
Can you provide a testcase for Disable Target?
In the Disable Target thread (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=61134), I use the following link code... Test it out: <a href="http://extensions.cusser.net/disabletarget/testing.jar" target="_blank">http://extensions.cusser.net/disabletarget/testing.jar</a>
For some reason, its not recognizing Disable Targets as an update. But the GUID looks the same.
Weird. I've never changed my GUIDs, so they certainly should be the same. I wonder what's messing with the update... are the version numbers ok? I've had no complaints installing from my site.
That's the only one with a problem. I'll have to play in a debug environment to find out what's going on.
Sorry to be a pain Alan, but can you get Context Highlight 0.2 up? It's the only extension of mine which is not installable from UMO (where CH 0.1 for Firefox 1.0PR is the latest version).
