Re-reporting bug 221504. Originally reported as: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624 When I choose the type "Mail files" then the lines do not merge. [With this] message.eml digest containing 15 messages, 14-th and 15th of them merge into a single 1497 character line when I save as type "Text Files". attachment 132818 [details]: Two files: eml file is correct; txt file is incorrect

I've reproduced this symptom with Thunderbird 0.7. The only difference (a slight improvement) between the text file saved by Moz1.4 and the one saved by TB 0.7 is that the smileys from the original mail are maintained; they had been stripped out during the earlier save. The thing I notice at message 14 is, that is the only message in the entire digest which has a "standard" signature delimiter: --<space> starting at the beginning of the line. After the Save As | Text, everything from that delimiter onward is placed on a single line. I additionally notice that text that appears in the original mail quoted with single > characters at the beginning of the line have those increased to two or more: > text becomes >> text and > > text becomes >>> > text

> "standard" signature delimiter: So, it may kick off something strange here.
Looks problem of bug 269812 is involved, then putting bug 269812 in "Depends on:". Mike, correct if wrong, please.

The text from the duplicate bug shows a slight variation on the text for this one: at the point of the line merge, the "sig" is nonstandard, but looks like this: -- Tim, N9PUZ -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.323 / Virus Database: 267.7.7/20 - Release Date: 6/16/2005 ------------------------------ Message: 23 [...] and is saved as follows (this is supposed to be two lines, the second one really long): -- Tim, N9PUZ -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.323 / Virus Database: 267.7.7/20 - Release Date: 6/16/2005 ------------------------------ Message: 23 [...] That is, the *second* (and last?) line that begins "-- " is the point at which all the subsequent lines are merged into a single line. I also note that in each case, the line beginning with "-- " is followed shortly after by line consisting of dashes, as a message separator. Maybe significant, maybe not.
sorry for the spam. making bugzilla reflect reality as I'm not working on these bugs. filter on FOOBARCHEESE to remove these in bulk.

Bug 269812 was found to be different/independent problem. Removing dependency.
No longer depends on: 269812
I think this is what hits when saving patches inside of emails. I was told in bug 503271 comment 4 that I shouldn't hope saving as .eml would work as we want, so I tried .txt but that doesn't work either. Will ask my colleague to attach an example.
Flags: wanted1.9.2?
Its slightly unclear to me what this bug is about, and I think it needs clear test cases attaching directly to this bug.
Flags: wanted1.9.2?
