(Yes, I know about the various different possibilities to add a bookmark, but just saw a user trying to click on the "Bookmarks"-Text for adding the current page..) Note bug 72023. Mozilla seems to have it?

Trying to picture UI that would work with the current sidebar, and failing. With no selection, you would probably dump a new bookmark at the bottom of root. With a selection (you first open the Foo folder, to see if you've bookmarked Hot Foo Deals) you're okay, unless you have normal bookmarks, with a few hundred unfoldered things in the root. If you're really cunning, you can get the selection where you want by clicking a folder or separator, then arrow-scrolling to the right place. Otherwise, you're likely to click the bookmark you want to insert below, and open it over the page you wanted to bookmark, or maybe, having selected a folder to check it, you want to clear your selection to add at the bottom of root, so you do what you would do to any other selection to clear it, ctrl-click, and open the whole folder in tabs. Of course, it could just be a totally unconnected button that brings up the usual dialog, frustratingly ignoring your selected folder (since that's wontfixed). Now if the bookmarks sidebar was actually the right pane of the bookmarks manager...

Phil, which wontfixed-bug are you speaking of? I would propose to simply open the usual dialog with the current open folder (in the sidebar) as default location for the bookmark.
Why have a button that duplicates a menu item that's maybe 100-150 pixels away? This would be clutter for the sidebar, however bug 210542 seems sane enough. We need to look at possibly expanding the toolbar palette some more, but sticking a button like this in the sidebar would be a little much, and would introduce an inconsistency with the History sidebar, which we've worked at making functionally identical.
