Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a4) Gecko/20040908
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a4) Gecko/20040908

I have mozilla set up so that it polls server for new emails. It does allow
sending of messages. if either get is pressed or the Mail window first opens
receive "no new Mail on server"

checking in with My ISP's Webmail service show new mail on mail server.

Using OSX.3.5

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.either on opening of the Mail and news window
2. or get mesages
3.

Actual Results:
Messages comes up no new messages on server.

Expected Results:
download latest messages if newones on Sever

I tried using a copy of the popstate file that worked in Aug 16 nightly that worked.
The popstate file used works in the Aug 16 nightly of 1.8.a.3
But not in today's 1.8.a.4 nor Monday's 1.8.a.3 nightly.
If this applies to more than just OSX feel free to change.
Confirmed on OS X 10.3.5 for nightly of 20040831. No messages downloaded since
at least then; webmail shows messages coming in properly.
To help with tracking down defect.

I've created a new Profile using either the 1.8.a.3 Monday release of nightly,
and with the 1.8.a.4 nightly uploaded yesterday. Neither allows for downloading
of messages. So the problem is within the application itself or components
within the Mozilla.app package. has nothing to do with profiles or prefereences.
Someone needs to get there act together. I just downloaded Build number 2004091006
Dated Sept 10. I still can't download mail. This has got to stop.

It appears no version after Aug. 16 for Mac OSX will download mail and no one is
interested in fixing it. I did have one fellow nice enought to report
verification of the defect.

I can send mail. I can read and send Newspost.

But when I click on Get button when I know there is mail on the server, no mail
dowloads and receive message no new message on server.
Put in the wron number for Build number. All numbers is okay except last number
was 10 not 6. Sorry.

Again a new profile has no affect so that eliminates everything but the Mozilla
Application Package.
Currently using
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a4) Gecko/20040913

Still no joy. Still can not download mail.
Tried today using:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a4) Gecko/20040913

No Mail.

I even tried removing the Mozilla Folder from Library Folder On OSX.3.5 so
everything would be pristine clean. Nothing.

I'm going to give up trying Nightlies for several weeks maybe even a month.
Maybe in that time someone will get around to finding the problem.
Still confirmed for 2004090808 -- cannot get later nightlies to launch (filed
separate bug). Definitely regression.

I am using l.7.2 and have started having the same problem as stated above. My
mail will download on first bootup and the will not retrive until I either
close browser and sometimes I have to reboot. The mail is on my ISP site and I
can read it there.Win 98SE
Using today's build Mozilla 1.8a4
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a4) Gecko/20040921
on the Mac 10.3.5 on a G5, I am not seeing this behavior.

I started with a clean profile and then set up my mail account. When I pressed
"Get Messages" Mozilla mail showed that I had a new message. I also had the
server check for new messages every 3 minutes, and it did show another new
message that came along without me having to invoke the get messages.

I will now go and test this on another machine and report back. If others want
to try today's nightly, that would be great.
Sorry no cigar. Tried you method and refused to download messages despite there
being two messages on server.

I guess 1.8.a.3 will the last one working on OSX.3.5

Would having Norton AntiVirus or Suffit Deluxe installed pose a problem.
doesn't seem to be a problem with Aug 16's download.

Its there something in the Pref.js I need to check on?

I guess I'll use what I have until the timer (timebomb) kicks in.
is there anyone working on the bug??
Can you attach a pop3 protocol log by following these instructions for pop?

http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#imap

if your popstate.dat is the issue, can you also attach that?

thx

I followed direrections per instuctions given in URL and named file loggingTool.
and drop on unopened Mozilla (the one not responding) and it opend but can not
find any trace of what I am trying to look for.

I even opened package contents while runing (and not runing) can not find any
new Log file asscociated with the file

I copied and pasted what was suggested on the website for Mac.

ARGS:-mail
ENV:NSPR_LOG_MODULES=pop3:5
ENV:NSPR_LOG_FILE= (#filename) filename (#filename)

Nothing.

I'll have to reload my Aug16 build in order to retreive my mail just to receive
this comment on the bug report
silly question - did you give a valid filename? I haven't done logging on the
mac, but I know it can be made to work. One possibility is to open up a command
shell, set those environment variables, and then run mozilla from the command
line, a la unix.
Tried as copied.

then I received file and in place of filename I give it the name I saved it under

First time:

ARGS:-mail
ENV:NSPR_LOG_MODULES=pop3:5
ENV:NSPR_LOG_FILE= (#filename) filename (#filename)

Second Time:

ARGS:-mail
ENV:NSPR_LOG_MODULES=pop3:5
ENV:NSPR_LOG_FILE= (#filename) LoggingTool (#filename)

you can use:

ARGS:-mail as title because the Mac OS and I suspect UNIX as well forbids the
use of the :- in the Title. I gave a slightly different Name for title.

I'm not into UNIX although I do know where the application is to get to command
line. I ould be willing to try. But I would need detailed instructions Emailed

to me I can print out so I know what to do. I don't want to type a code and
endup reformatting my hard drive by accident.
This works for me on windows XP
It also works for me on Mac OSX (10.2.8)
But it is broken on Mac OSX (10.3.5) Initial mail get on startup works. But
subsequent request to get mail fail to pull new messages from the server.

The latest Thunderbird 0.8 nightly build works on Mac OSX 10.3.5
In my case "any" builds after aug16 (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X
Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a3) Gecko/20040816) will not even get initial mail. it will
send mail but not receive mail. News is not affected.

So this seems like a system wide bug for people using OSX.3.5
I'm not seeing this problem on OS X 10.3.5 with POP or IMAP mail. I can receive
and read new mail without a problem. I've tested the 9/22 build and cannot make
it fail. What am I missing here?
tested again on Mac OSX 10.3.5 and can no longer reproduce this. Mail retrieval
works fine.
Phillip: Are you using the Global Inbox feature, and if so which parameter is
selected of the three choices (Global Inbox, Inbox for Server, or other?)
my guess is that this is either bug 258077 (IMAIL server interaction problems)
or bug 260981 - both of these are fixed in yesterday or today's trunk or .8 builds.

No its set to use inbox (not Global inbox)
I downloaded and installed yesterday afternoon
Mozilla 1.8a4
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a4) Gecko/20040924
Build 2004092405

I'm crossing my fingers, toes, and legs and whatever else I can cross - but,
it this build has corrected the problem with no mail down load.

I'll try more today and tommorrow before asking someone to mark fixed.
Still crossing everything I can find, But this morning still able to download email.

I'll post again Monday. If it workes then you can mark fixed.
This Monday Morning. I was again able to download mail this morning, that's
three consecutive days in a row.

So, I very cautiously ask that, bug be marked fixed. Provided it work for others
as well.
