Mail&Newsgroups client forgets how Message Pane was last used.
When you close the pane with "View-Show&Hide-Message Pane" and close and
relaunch the client the message preview pane is open again.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Close the message pane with "F8-F8" or via "View-Show/Hide-Message Pane"
2. Close the client.
3. Relaunch the client.
Actual Results:
Message pane is visible again.
Expected Results:
Keep the pane closed and reopen it only when asked.
"Preferences-Mail&Newsgroups-Mail Start Page" settings do not affect the
behaviour, although I thought it was due to it.
The behaviour is very problematic when handling spam messages that have external
images or other anchors. For selecting the messages you have to left click them
and this opens them up in the message view. Handling spam with extreme care
right click operations is annoying so it's easier to handle them with the
message view closed.

This works for me with a Linux build from today.
Can you try this with a fresh profile, please?

Ville Arkko, I guess you are using the alternate 3-pane layout -- folder pane
and thread pane both above the message pane?
If so, this is bug 77447 (see bug 203289).
Please mark this bug as a dupe, or explain why it is not.
