Nearly all messages in my inbox have .vcf V-Card attachments. The paperclip
attachment icon is displaying for all the .vcf attachments. I can't tell which
messages actually have attachments. A desirable behavior would be the ability to
turn off the attachment icon for certain extensions (or at the very least for .vcf).
Thanks!
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Attach a .vcf V-Card to a message with no other attachments
2.Send the message to yourself
3.See the attachment icon in your inbox
Actual Results:
The paperclip icon shows up in my inbox.
Expected Results:
I would expect it would treat .vcf attachments as if they were an inline
signature instead of treating it as a normal attachment.

I agree, that would really be cool (I have the same problem). An option to have
it be a different colored icon or something would be cool.
This *should* be marked as an enhancement though.

I can see the argument that this is an enhancement, but it's a bug to me.
Showing the paperclip for a vCard is misleading -- particularly if you use a
vCard and are looking in your Sent folder.
See also bug 257116.
This bug is common to TB and MailNews, but I'll leave it as a TB bug for now.

I remembered in correctly. As long as you have view attachments inline turned on
we don't show vcards as external attachments.

That is not the case. I have selected 'View attachments inline' and I still show
v-cards as an external attachment denoted by the paperclip.
I beg of you, please take clippy away.

Maybe have it an additional option "View v-Cards inline"?

This bug is about the paperclip displayed in the thread pane.
In the *message* pane, the attachment panel is hidden (for a vCard) if Display
Attachments Inline is on, AND View Message Body As is set to Original HTML (the
latter point being the issue in bug 257116).

right, sorry hadn't eaten recently. what i meant was
"have an option that says 'view paperclip in threadpane for v-cards'"
make more sense?

just d/l'ed 0.9 and it looks like it is kind of fixed. The paperclip shows up
when the message is unread. Once the message gets read the paperclip for the
v-card goes away. If message is marked as unread the paperclip doesn't reappear.

comment #3 still applies. Big pain when trying to search the sent folder.
Comment 12•20 years ago

that is the intended behaviour...it's a compromise between guessing if a message
has attachments from the headers only, and then fixing the hasAttachments flag
when the user reads the message.

Would there be a way to allow users to disable the paperclip for certain
attachments?

In TB 1.0 this seems to be fixed too. Maybe it could be closed.
However, I could see another problem but I don't know if a solution could exist
to satisfy everybody: when somebody forwards you or attach a vcf file to you (ie
that vCard is not necessarily his), then that mail won't show paperclip too.

|

I dont know why do you say that it is fixed in TB 1.0, I am using the version of
the 20.04.05, but it still has the problem.
Comment 16•20 years ago
|

It's not fixed according to Ron Alexandre's (the bug reporter) original request.
But it's fixed in "compromise mode" as mentioned by others. That means, once
you've read the message, vCard will no longer be displayed as attachment and the
paperclip will disappear accordingly.
If it still shows up for you, make sure that in your TB menu, View > Display
attachments inline is checked.

Any objection to close this bug as FIXED?

I guess closing it make sense because it seems like the way I would prefer is
not the "correct" way.
Would it make sense to be able to filter what extensions the paperclip icon is
shown for?

it's as fixed as we can make it, and still show the paper clip after just
downloading headers, so marking wfm

Worked in TB2.0, but reappeared in TB3.0. Now paperclip icon is shown for all my send messages and incoming messages with VCF card attached. I understand that vCard is more than signature point of view mentioned here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2155379 , but seeing which messages contains attachment is much more important for me.
