tested with 2000-01-31-14 comm bits on linux. this is specific to keyboard shortcuts, not the menu access keys/mnemonics. 1. open browser window. 2. click to gain focus (bug 9701). 3. hit any of the keyboard shortcuts: Alt+W, Alt+Q, Alt+O, Alt+L, Alt+N... result: nothing happens. seems that keyboard shortcuts are now broken. i know that for M14, Ctrl is gonna replace Alt, but i'm assuming that's yet to be implemented (as that doesn't work either).
Why is this a blocker and why is this different from bug #22529? Marking as a dup (but feel free to argue :-) ... *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 22529 ***

i shoulda put Regression in the summary field when i filed this... anyhow, that's the main reason why i'd prefer this as a separate bug from 22529 --since this had been working recently. it's more global that the "shortcut here or there" aspect of most of bug 22529 --all keyboard shortcuts on linux are affected here. so, i'm reopening... feel free to come over and lemme know other counter-arguments. :-)

Summary: [PP, Dogfood] linux: keyboard shortcuts no longer work → [PP, Regression] linux: keyboard shortcuts no longer work
Chris, although many keyboard shortcuts no longer work, some still do function just fine. That's the real mystery here. I suspect someone on the XPToolkit team has hosed us. Find out what's going on. BTW, the keyboard shortcuts you mention ARE menu access mneumonics, i.e. menu command keyboard equivalents, and they're supposed to use Control rather than Alt now, although the menu items have incorrect text.

using today's 2000-02-09-08 comm bits, i noticed that shortcuts will work with this particular recipe: 1. open a new window browser from menu: File > New Navigator Window. 2. bring the new window to focus (bug 9701). 3. try out a keyboard shortcut, eg, Alt+L (note that you still need to use Alt; Ctrl doesn't work). try not to use a command that'll get rid of the window, though. 4. repeat step 3, but with another shortcut, eg, Alt+O. result: i can issue up to four commands (per new browser window) using shortcuts, after which shortcuts no longer work. odd.

This looks like it is working for me. Win32 = ctrl Linux = alt alt-L brings up location dialog (linux) alt-n brings up new window (linux)
