Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10
If Firefox is set as your default browser, and you have an open window in
Firefox already, when clicking a link in an outside app, not only does a new
Firefox window open with the url loaded (as it should) but the other Firefox
window(s) are brought to the front. So alt-tab (switch windows) doesn't go to
the other app's window as it should, but it goes to the next Firefox window
which previously was way in back.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make sure Firefox is your OS default browser.
2. Open a Firefox window and go to any url, like http://google.com
3. Go into another app, like email, and click a link. Firefox should be brought
to the front with the new URL loaded.
5. Press alt-tab.
Actual Results:
You go to your first (step 1) window, http://google.com
Expected Results:
It should take you back to your email client window. The Google window should
still be at the bottom of the stack of open system windows.

"all Firefox windows" is an overstatement, but yes, it does seem to leave you
with two windows, your most recent previous window and the new window, at the
front. Not sure how avoidable that is with the current code, though
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Summary: all Firefox windows come to front when link clicked in outside app → link from external app brings two Firefox windows to front when set to open new window

hey, what's the policy on changing a bug priority? I'm looking at something like
bug 260282 and thinking if that's a "normal" bug then this one probably is, too.
(fwiw this bug gets in my way every day; a lot of windows power users prefer to
alt-tab their way through the open windows and this bug causes FFox's behavior
to be very different from other windows apps and throw me off in a big way.)
not trying to be (too much) of a nudge, just wondering if this might be more
"normal" than "minor" & don't want to change it if that's not The Way Things Are
Done. thanks.

You can click on the link next to the field and it will take you to a page that
explains the severities, though normal doesn't seem to be listed; this bug seems
to be more severe than "minor" and I don't see an easy workaround. I've also
slightly changed the summary to better reflect the situation as I see it.
Severity: minor → normal
Summary: link from external app brings two Firefox windows to front when set to open new window → link from external app brings last focused Firefox window to front before opening a new window
