When Japanese is inputted by quick search, a search does not sometimes work.

In this case, inputted Japanese is displayed in gray.
And a search will be performed if a return key is further pushed after inputting
Japanese.

By the case where it works normally, of course, a search works only by inputting
Japanese. And inputted Japanese is black and is displayed.

Mac OS X 10.3.5
version 0.8 (20041016)
As a screen shot, inputted Japanese is displayed in gray and a search does not
work.
does this work okay in the google search box for firefox? we are using a similar
widget which is why I ask.
Although tried on Google Search bar of Firefox, this did not have the problem.
This problem generates only the quick search of Thunderbird.

No.

And it reproduced with following step.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Click quick search field(or press command + k).
2.IME is turned on.
3.Some Japanese is input. (ex. あああ)
4.Japanese is fixed pressing return key.
  -- Quick search is executed.
5.It presses return key.
-- The entire input key word highlights.
  -- Does search run, too?
6.Presses delete key.
7.Japanese is input again.
   (ex. あああ)

Actual Results:
Japanese input in a thin gray is displayed like the screen shot.
And Quick search doesn't work even if Japanese is fixed.
(The execution result is not displayed even in the status bar.)

Hiro, still occurs in Thunderbird 3 Beta 1? I used quick search to search for some Chinese characters and they do return some results.
