User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 When I ran FireFox for the first time, it gave me the option to import Mozilla's bookmarks. I declined that offer, but I noticed that my old Internet Explorer bookmarks were imported without ever asking me. Why do Mozilla products always insist on doing IE imports? Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install FireFox on a Mac for the first time (or at least erase all previous evidence of FireFox). Make sure that Internet Explorer has already been installed and run at least once. 2.Run FireFox for the first time. 3.(Optional) Skip importing Mozilla bookmarks. Actual Results: The FireFox bookmarks included "Imported IE Favorites". Expected Results: FireFox shouldn't have any imported IE data (i.e. not assume I always would want it).
This is a feature (especialy for Windows and Mac) although it doesn't work properly on Mac. # see Bug 205483 and Bug 236304. Marking INVALID. Please reopen if I was wrong.

You're wrong. Bug 205483 claims that the importing got corrupted. The importing happened correctly in my case; I just disagree that it should have been done in the first place (at least without asking). You guys need to stop designing around "beating IE" and treat importing from IE the same as any other browser. That means to stop assuming that automatic IE import is desired. So I'm calling your feature a bug. Bug 236304 doesn't even look valid. Its description is blank and its title is ambigous. How did two other bugs, which actually have descriptions, get marked as duplicates? I had to look at those two bugs to understand the problem. The first bug, 265907, it looks like the first import failed and the user couldn't find any alternate import procedure. The second bug, 268843, had the user get the Mozilla bookmarks only instead of IE's bookmarks. From my bug and 268843, it looks like the first run of FireFox gives the option of importing Mozilla bookmarks. If the option is accepted, only the Mozilla bookmarks are imported, else only the IE bookmarks are imported. The dialog does _not_ state the consequence of causing IE bookmark import if the dialog is cancelled. The whole import (on first run) mechanism is broken on the Mac. It shouldn't be an _either_ Mozilla _or_ IE import of bookmarks. The dialog should allow both imports to commence, plus any other "mainstream" Mac browsers, and _all_ requests should be explicit. (Think checkboxes, not radio buttons.)

I ran FireFox on a separate account (for my brother). Its first run also gave entries for IE bookmarks. But my brother _never_ ran IE on his account (unless I'm mis-reading the lack of an IE preference file). How extensive is FireFox's search for IE bookmarks? Otherwise, is FireFox pulling a default copy of IE bookmarks from within its own package?
With the Windows version, if the profile Migration of IE is not performed, Bookmark of IE is not taken in. But with the Mac version, there is no Migration function of IE yet. And since Bookmark of IE was surely taken in when Mozilla was also started first, I think that this function is also in Firefox as it is.
Please NEW, when this problem appears in not performing the profile Migration of IE after Bug 236304 fixed.
