We need a GUID column for the web service to make sure that we only deliver compatible extensions and themes.

Giving each OS a GUID? That seems to be a bit, outlandish of a solution, particularly when the client doesn't understand. Firefox already has a method for inserting a OS string for a variety of platforms. Instead of bloating it up by adding a global identifier, try using that first. It should be unique enough. Either way, this should sit and wait till it's needed, once a client side implementation of Bug 255619 exists then the webservice will need to adapt and it'd need this field.
