Many web sites (such as nearly all vBulletin boards) use some kind of trickery
to cause links to open in a new window, instead of in the current one.  Firefox
users might prefer the option of forcing all new windows to open as new tabs, no
matter how clearly the site specifies a "new window".

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.  Use any site that does "open in new window" when you click on a link.
2.  Click on the link.
3.

Actual Results:  
Open a new window.

Expected Results:  
Opened a new tab.

This is *NOT* a duplicate of 78037!

78037 is attempting to suppress the creation of a new display object entirely,
opening the link in the place that the page containing the link is currently
displayed.

I am suggesting a more subtle change, which is to allow a new page-renderer to
be opened, but *IN A NEW TAB*, *NOT IN A NEW WINDOW*.

These are not asking for the same feature, and I don't think they should be
considered duplicates of each other.

Yes, it is not a dupe.

This is already implemented for Firefox (see Bug 172962), only the UI is hidden
per default (see Bug 266759). See

Oh!  Okay, excellent.  So, it is a dupe, but not of the bug that it was marked
as a dupe of.
