This appears to be quite a general statement. Could you elaborate a bit more on
the details of your computer and whether or not you have tried a reinstall? As
it stands, it seems that this is more likely to be a problem with your
particular installation rather Firefox as a problem.

Did you close Firefox before restarting your computer? Firefox is known to lose
profile data when it has to forcibly quit.

A similar situation exists with my Firefox 1.0, ordered from CD ROM, running on
Windows 98, not Windows 98SE, with a dialup modem, using CompuServe.  My
preferences settings remain during the day as I use and close the browser, and
am on and off the Internet and the telephone line, but I shut down the computer
at night. When I reboot the computer in the morning, Firefox starts up with the
original default settings and preferences.  It does save my bookmarks, however. 

This is kind of annoying, so thanks for fixing it.
