keep getting pop-up saying "new mail in local folderr" but often cannot find ANY
new mails
this happens MOST of the time, although sometimes there ARE new emails which I
can see.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. allow it to get mail (either by clicking get mail or automatically)
2.
3.

Actual Results:
popup said "new mail"
No new mail in Inbox

Expected Results:
put any new mail in inbox where I can read it.
I don't know if the popup is wrong or Thunderbird is losing half my emails!
Incidentally dates on many imported emails were wrong
Now I've disabled the automatic checking and downloading of emails except when I
click on Get Mail, but every 10 minutes it is STILL saying "local folder has ##
new emails"
What is going on?
Am I throwing away all my customers emails?
Do you use any filters/junk filters to move incoming e-mails to other folders?
Severity: critical → major
Summary: keep getting pop-up saying "new mail in local folderr" but often cannot find ANY new mails → keep getting pop-up saying "new mail in local folder" but often cannot find ANY new mails
Yes I do, but I have checked ALL folders.

Now I have disabled the auto-get-mail on each account AND closed and restarted
thunderbird it doesn't seem to happen any more (although it hasn't been very
long since I've done that so i could be wrong, it might just not have happened
again YET.
But if I reenable the auto-get-mail, it does it a lot.

Incidentally the filters don't seem to work very well, Sometimes I try to use a
message to create a rule only to find that the rule already exists but has been
ignored

by the way is there a way to filter all mail labelled as junk into the spam
folder? And why do I get hundreds on emails about viagra NOT labelled as junk?
 Surely this is a default!

Sorry to raise other problems in this thread
I think my pb is linked to that one :
I install thunderbird1.0 on winXp, migrating mail accounts from outlook express 6.
If I let thunderbird pop accounts with the automatic process ( every 15 minutes)
when new mails arrived, it pop-up correctly, playing sounds for new mails, BUT
no new mail appears in the local folder...
To see them, I must push the receive button and so all my new mails appears in
the local folder...
I can reproduce it every time.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a

you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug

reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not

I read more widely on the net about this.
Others found that if you manually Get Mail after these weird notifications, THEN
the emails will be downloaded

Reporter, does the issue still exist in the latest supported 2.0.0.x / Shredder trunk nightlies?

(1.5.0.x is now end-of-life and the latest 2.0.0.x is version 2.0.0.16)
