User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050308 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050308 I have not found out how to attach an .eml saved copy of the relevant e-mail. If I do find out, I shall do so. This is an article from an online newspaper, forwarded to me by a friend. If I click 'Reply' or 'Forward', a new mail page duly appears, but the content of the e-mail flashes up and instantly vanishes. This has happened in builds since 20050303, but I have tried the same e-mail with an earlier build, and it did not happen. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open 'Mail and Newsgroups'. 2.Select the given e-mail. 3.Click 'Reply' or 'Forward'. Actual Results: A new mail page opens, the contents of the original e-mail flash up and at once disappear. Expected Results: The contents of the e-mail should remain visible. eMac G4, OS 10.3.8, Classic theme.

As default do you compose as plain text or as HTMl e-mail?

In answer to the question of whether I normally compose in HTML or not — yes, in HTML. But please note that this bug concerns an e-mail received by me, not one composed by me. As I was only able to attach a saved copy of the offending e-mail to my bug report, I am now going to forward the original e-mail to S. Spitzer, to whom this bug appears to have been assigned.

Very strange! I have just received another newspaper article — different paper, but forwarded by the same friend — and there is no problem with this. So the bug is specific to the original newspaper and e-mail. May I repeat that even with the original (offending) e-mail, the bug didn't show up till sometime after Build 20050213?

I have just realized that a version of the e-mail saved as html will contain more useful data than the eml one I attached originally.

This has not been resolved in Build 20050310. It is also not, as far as I can see, a duplicate of Bug 285612, because my Preferences are set to display forwarded messages inline, not as attachments.

Check a build after 20050310-14 to test if your problem depends on the backed out patch from bug 212123 or not.

c'mon Michael you should know better :) the bug was backed out yesterday. pretty hard for a build that came out before it was backed out to ahve the fix in it unless we have time machines around here. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 212123 ***

Oh, M.Scott! Yes, I would know better if I had any notion what 'backed out' meant! Perhaps you should know better than to think that I was referring to a build issued after the date I was writing on (and by the way I don't know where that build was built — but here it was already early evening). I was merely confirming that the bug was still there — and that it isn't a duplicate of one dealing with attachments. I'll leave it to others this time to reopen the bug.

Just as confirmation that this is NOT a duplicate of the bug concerning attachments: Bug 285415 is STILL PRESENT in build 20050311. I am now reopening it.

And even worse: in Build 20050311, it is impossible to send e-mails at all! One can enter addresses and subject, but it is impossible to type anything at all in the message pane. Is this part of the same bug, or shoul;d it be a new one?

A final comment re comment no.13: I have now found that it IS at first (after starting Mozilla 20050311) possible to type a message in the message pane. But if I go back to the e-mail that was the cause of the original problem (a problem that is still there in Build 20050311) and try to reply to it or forward it, THEN it becomes impossible to type any message in any new e-mail. The only way then to restore mail-composition funtionality is to quit Mozilla and restart it.

Hurray! In Build 20050320 this bug was still present, but I've just downloaded Build 20050324 — and it seems to have been fixed. At least it 'WORKSFORME'.
