When you view the Meta charset page and you select some Auto-Detect menu, the page should not be reloaded. Steps of reproduce 1. Go to http://home.netscape.com/ja/ (This page has Shift_JIS Meta charset). 2. Select menu View|Auto-Detect (Korean) or Auto-Detect (Chinese) The page will be reloaded. The Auto-Detect menu selection should not the page to reload. Tested 2000022108 Win32, Mac, and Linux build.
Frank, Bob, what's the resolution on this issue? My accepting vs. invalidating this bug depends on it.
For now, Accept it. I think we will probably want auto-detect to override just as a charset selection will override. For example if a SJIS page is mismarked as EUC-JP, then overriding it with Ja auto-detect would be useful. This appears to be the same behavior used by IE.
Ok, but I didn't think this had anything to do with override...

Since we have not implemented override, we should not be reloading now (and that is how 4.x behaves). But when you implement override, we'll reload for the override value. This bug should become invalid then.
Made this bug dependent upon bug 7886, the charset override bug.
Depends on: 7886

No, Auto-Detectors do not override yet. Moving to M17...
Target Milestone: M16 → M17
So, since we decided that the autodetectors will not override, this bug becomes invalid. Reload is here to stay.
