Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050319
Build Identifier: http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/2004-12-13-trunk/
If you click on the arrow to the side of the back or forward button, you will
see the respective button act like it is being click, when it shouldn't. The
same thing happens when you select an item in the dropdown menu that appears.
I have narrowed down when the problem started to appear. Starting from the trunk
build of 13 December 2004 (20041213), the problem appears, and persists until
today's builds.
Theme: Classic
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click the arrow next to the back or forward button that activates the
dropdown menu.
2. Click on an item in the dropdown menu.
Actual Results:
After 1 or 2- The back button itself acted as if it was being clicked on.
Expected Results:
The button shouldn't have acted as if it was being clicked on.

I made some GIFs to illustrate the bug.

http://www.geocities.com/pswebring/backbutton2.gif
The first is how it should be.
The second is how it is now. The mouse is pressing on the right side, goes to
the dropdown menu, and clicks again.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050326 classic theme
imho this is a cosmetical problem, not a functional problem.
When I click the back button directly, it is impressed while the page back is
loading.
If I click the arrow, the button is impressed while the drop-down is loading.
Clicking the arrow doesn´t copy the action of the button, it copies only the
visual impression.

Exactly: and bug 257280 comment 8 says that this is wanted (now)...
See also bug 285971 comment 9: duplicating to it...
I knew about the dropdown button ! Did I know about the popup menu too ? ;-)

Actually the hierarchical hover/active code seems to be confusing the native
theme code into drawing the button inappropriately.

I filed bug 288082 on the native theme issue.
