I have a myrealbox account (http://www.myrealbox.com). Everytime I check new
messages from that account, it pulls the same emails down from the server. It's
as if Thunderbird does not know that the emails have been downloaded.
Thunderbird downloads just fine from my gmail account.

I was using Outlook Express before Thunderbird. Outlook Express, when
downloading from myrealbox, does not face this problem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Check email
2. Repeat

Actual Results:
Same messages download over and over.

Expected Results:
Only download the new emails once.

If you fix your problem make sure you mark this bug as INVALID.
I can confirm this on Tbird 1.0.5 on WinXP,
BUT only with mail from my gamebox.net account. (don't have myrealbox)
Sometimes it redownloads all mail, sometimes it downloads no mail at all,
even with nearly 100 new messages waiting.
I did delete popstate.dat, that just redownloads all, then problem recurs
in a week or so.
I have seen this happen several times over a period over a year - with my POP3
account with Vodafone Mail (www.vodafone.net), and sometimes I end up with three
copies of each mail.

Separately, my parents have also seen both their POP3 accounts on www.tesco.net
do the same. It applies to messages that have been deleted, moved or left in the
Inbox are duplicated when new (and these old) messages are fetched from the POP3
account.

I strongly disagree with marking this as INVALID, since it is clearly a bug in
the behaviour that is not exhibited by other mail clients using the same
settings (i.e. Leave messages on server for x days, or until deleted or moved
from the inbox).

The workarounds at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Duplicate_messages_received are no
more than workarounds.
To add - while my Thunderbird account has been around for a while, it regularly
gets compacted, whereas my parents' Thunderbird accounts have only seen a couple
months of action between them so it seems unlikely that the profiles are corrupt.

Anyway - this bug seems like a dupe of bug 262408 (POP3 mail duplicates with
Leave Messages on Server...).
