A gazillion years ago, NR/2, the built-in newsreader for OS/2, had a feature I
found very handy. Message ID's were tracked across newsgroups, and once a
cross-posted message had been read in one group, it would be marked "read" in
all other newsgroups in which it appeared.

Yes, I can see there's a non-trivial processing cost, so perhaps it should be
made optional. But I liked it when I had it, and I often wish I had it now.
