303673 - can't open .eml files (even those saved by thunderbird) from windows explorer

Opening .eml-files from Windows Explorer (right click - open with -
Thunderbird), the application does not start. I can only see "thunderbird.exe"
one or two seconds in the process list, then the process is terminated. I don't
get any error message. When Thunderbird is already opened, no other process is
launched, and nothing happens.

Opening the same .eml-files from within Thunderbird (file - open file - specific
.eml-file) everything is fine, I can read the mail without any problems, so it's
not a problem with the file format, I guess thunderbird needs some kind of
parameter to open the mails from explorer.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open Windows Explorer
2. right click on a .eml-file
3. choose "open with - Thunderbird"

Actual Results:  
When Thunderbird is already open, nothing happens.
When it is closed, I can see the thunderbird.exe process in the task manager for
one or two seconds, then it disappears.

Expected Results:  
The mail should have been opened in a new Thunderbird WIndow, with or without a
second windows showing the main application

Looks like a dupe of bug 242959 (which was fixed 2005-06-01).

Not a dupe bug of bug 242959. Even if I assign .eml files to Thunderbird the
same thing happens. Bug 242959 describes the problem that eml was not assigned
to Thunderbird

Associating .eml files with Thunderbird was discussed in that bug, but was not
what that bug was about. Please test this in the latest builds:

I don't actually see the connection with this bug. However, comment #18 of that
bug describes the same problem. Seems that in the german version (1.0.6
(20050716)) the problem ist still not fixed. Hopefully it will be in the next
release. Thanks.
