A while back I build the Camino application icon from scrap at a very high resolution so we could use it for t-shirt and what not. This has resulted in the use of two slightly different icons right now. The icon as shown on various places on the website is the new one. It has slightly altered color (blue) and the overall look is just a bit more sharp and more spatious. More in the line of the 10.4 look. It looks much better in the dock. I will attach a new Application icon, a new fileHTML icon and a new fileBookmark icon. This will also fix Bug 295165.
This is just the application icon

FWIW, the new icon looks a lot lighter, more washed-out, less defined, and harder to see at small sizes (< 48x48) on my Mac. At larger sizes, the difference between the two is less noticeable, although the blue is still clearly lighter :-)

Washed-out, the colo is less 1 color but more gradient from dark to light. Maybe slightly desaturated but not as extreme as you describe it. Less defined, please clarify that. I think it's much clearer. As for the hard to see below 48px, blame the dock and it's crappy scaling. I have added all the custom sizes in the resource and they are as sharp if not sharper the before.
The darker/stronger blue of the old icon I think provided better contrast and clearer borders between the blue globe and the white of the compass. The icon's icon's shadow, which seems stronger on the old icon, also provided more contrast between the compass and the Dock or Finder window backgrounds. I agree it's a lot worse in the Dock than the Finder because of Apple's patented "crappy scaling".

Personally, I like the updated icon and have been manually using it as the application icon for several weeks now. I don't think it looks washed out and wish that it would've made it into 1.0 honestly.

Yes, my wacky Dock. Sorry about the dupe on the other; Bugzilla hiccuped.
