User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040421
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040421
When typing in firefox in any number of situations (gmail, address bar, google search bar to the right of the address bar, in forms) the cursor won't advance but will place a character. I.E. typing "hello" will become "elloh" because it will place the "h" AFTER the cursor and then continue typing from there. MAKES FIREFOX UNUSABLE!
Reproducible: Always
Maybe the same problem as bug 314560?

Also seen on Windows 2000 Professional, latest service packs and updates.
Typically happens after use of Flash-based web sites.

it starts typing after i open another program and then close it.
When I have running a (sun java)pushed web side beside a an other instance or tab side of Firefox, then the cursor has a the described problem while editing in an edit control. Sometimes the cursor does not iincrement its position!!!

"hello" actually showed up as "olleh".
This persisted in all text boxes (including new tabs and new Firefox instances) until I closed all Firefox windows and then killed the firefox.exe process through the (Windows XP) task manager.
Using Firefox 1.0.6
My parents have been telling me they have this problem however, I haven't noticed it before. I'm the only user in my household who doesn't have that problem however, i'm the only administrator on all machines. I think this problem may occour. All these computers are running Windows XP SP2
Confirmed:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3
Seems to be new to this build. Occurs in address bar, search box, and text areas. Closing Firefox and restarting seems to eliminate it temporarily.

I have the same problem. It is like the "insert"-key is pushed randomly (on average about once every twenty or so key-strokes) for a single key stroke, while you are typing. To make clear what I mean, I will repeat the sentece I have just wrtitten, actually I see the thing happening all ready with the "n" out of the word sentnce, and the e from th from the same word s well as the e from the and the a from as.aeen
As yo can see all letters wre pushed forward as in this sentence the u and the e. eu All chaacters can be pushed forward including spaces etc.r
I purposely left the mistakes from this bug in te message to mke clear what is happening.ah
For the record: this is NOT the same problem as in bug 314560 (see comment 1)
I first blamed the keyboard but it is only happenng in Firefox.i

Indeed the problem occurs only when I have a particular other website running in another tab-window. (I do not know if that is (sun)-java pushed).

I've also experienced this problem off and on since at least Firefox 1.5. Since I upgraded to Firefox 3 (3.0.1) it is much worse. This occurs in the location bar, search bar and in text boxes. It doesn't always advance the cursor, but it doesn't always completely stop either. The faster I type, the less likely it is to advance the cursor before inserting the next character.
This instance it happened to start on a page that was running a java applet (on a local intranet page). If I leave that page up, it seems to happen more often. CPU usage is not spiked though.

I too have this same problem. Typing emails, filling forms out, typing in addresses. Anywhere I have to type. Doesn't seem to be a particular website that causes it, but I do have a standard set of tabs open while browsing (hotmail, gmail, facebook)
