When I send files as attachments to different recipients I often use the same folders for each recipient (eg. photos for my friends, office documents for my colleagues from work or files for my clients when I have different folder for each client). Well, I agree that isn't a 'must be' feature... rather nice enhancement of standard behaviour but I thought Thunderbird developers might be interested.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
WFM

I attatched a file from the desktop, navigated to another folder (sage), attached a file, clicked the attach button again, sage folder was selected.

Sounds like a little too much effort, having to store a folder name per recepient. What happens if you send email to multiple receipients?
Summary: program should remember folder from which I choosed attached file but per recipient address → Remember attachment folder per recepient
(In reply to comment #2)
Maybe store the whole set of recipients for which program would remember a folder?

It comes from that I've found very annoying moving through a bigger tree of folders which in this days (80-160 GB drives) are quite common. Another reasonable solution seems to be placing a list of lastly used folders (those from which you you've choosed attachments) on the left side of attachment dialog which IMHO would be much better solution than existing one with My Documents, Desktop and Network Places (on Windows). I don't know but maybe it is some sort of standard predefined MS Windows dialog and then I agree it's actually worthless idea ;)

Thanks for your attention at the problem anyway.

Krzysztof, thank you for your input!

While the idea looks charming, it would require very much effort to implement, and the actual behavior is not easy when it comes to multiple recipients in the same mail. This in turn would probably need an administrative UI, which IMO is way too complex compared to the usefulness. The folder-per-recipient(s) list is difficult to maintain as the number of (combinations of multiple) recipients is endless.

Let's be honest: Given the current lack of developer manpower and state of address book, we will never find the time to do this in the Core.

This is something that needs to be created and tested as an extension.
