User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705) Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.0.6 (20050716) If you don't happen to be watching the monitor when email arrives, you miss the notification. We need a notification that sticks around until focus is on Thunderbird. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. wait until an email arrives 2. notice taskbar notification (lasts 3 to 5 seconds) 3. it goes away A great enhancement would be to make the mail notification remain until focus changes to Mozilla Thunderbird. The notification doesn't need to be always-on-top since you can size windows to always see it.
In the office environment (and no head phones) a sticky visual mail notification would be most helpful. When to close the notification is a good question. Probably best would be to close notification whan you click on Get Mail.
Well, as with other notifications (on win, anyways) make it disappear either when TB gets focused, it's klicked on (bringing TB to front) or when it's rightclicked (the "bah I don't care right now" click). The current way is a little too unobtrusive.

The current way is a > little too unobtrusive. > This definitely seems the best way for it, and I was hoping there would be an extension to allow this behaviour.
And worse, if you set the timeout really long in user.js new notifications don't appear (on top or otherwise). I don't know if it resets the timer, but it certainly doesn't replace the pop-up.
At the very least how about making it stay on the screen if you hover your mouse over it (kind of like Outlook does). The fact that it disappears while I'm trying to aim for the link to open the new message is highly annoying.
Using Thunderbird 2.0.0.4, a part of the new mail notification is available until Thunderbird regains focus. There is the taskbar notification window that slides into view. When that disappears, it is replaced with an icon in the windows notification area. This icon doesn't disappear until Thunderbird regains focus. Does this fulfill this bug?
Related to/duplicate of bug 282619? (In reply to comment #5) > At the very least how about making it stay on the screen if you hover your > mouse over it (kind of like Outlook does). Duplicate of bug 374410.
No response to comment #6, and it looks like the icon fulfills the reporter's request, so I'm going to mark this as resolved.
