User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7
Build Identifier: Thunderbird V1.0.7 (20050923)

Extremely repeatable bug. Attempting to copy msg. from inbox to another folder (doesn't matter which one or whether under local folders or not) sends HD into R/W hell. Cannot terminate program via task manager, but must kill TB process. Restart of TB shows msg. was moved, but index needs rebuilding. Failure to properly maintain index is frequent. Problem present in earlier versions. (Current install is clean install.) TB cannot figure out what it should be doing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Copy a message from inbox to another folder
2.Listen to hard drive go nuts
3.Kill process and start over after rebuilding indexes

Actual Results:
Program lockup

Expected Results:
TB should maintain its indexes properly. It apparently cannot figure out whether an index is corrupt when it attempts to move a msg.

If a folder index is trashed for any reason, TB does not address the problem and recover while outside the folder. I don't discover a trashed index unless (1) I try to copy a msg. to a folder whose index is corrupt, resulting in lockup, or (2) I attempt to open the folder. At this point TB notifies me it is rebuilding the index.
Do you have any virus checkers installed, or other programs that might be messing with your disk access? Normally, this works fine.
a filemon (from sysinternals.com) log could be helpful...
Not sure which parts of log are most useful, so am attaching the whole thing as a zip.
i hate to ask, but just how big is your mailbox?

fwiw he has symantec something installed (SPBBC - symantec client secuurity, not sure the version, it's the corporate version of symantec's antivirus stuff)
windows was contemplating a system restore point according to the log.

the log doesn't seem to indicate anything remotely like contention.
Source box (Inbox) has 93 msgs., size is 10 megs; target box has 96 msgs., size is 195 megs.

Running Norton Anti-Virus 2005 (version 11.0.16.2) - no automatic updates, auto-protect is off, Internet worm protection is on, email scanning is off.
