Reproducible: Always Expected Results: search the web only started with RC3 I think
Do you see icons of searchplugins in the searchbar? If not, a Firefox reinstall might help.
I see the "add search engine" link thats it. The bug has appeared on my last two installs so I don't think I reinstall will help

Similar as my old plugins have disappeared, but I also can't search at all
Don't know if it is solved in the meantime, but first take a look in your Firefox application directory (in Program Files by default). Do you see a folder searchplugins with all 5 or 6 plugins in it? Copy it to your desktop. Then click on your windows Start button, type in your Run box %appdata% and in the folder Mozilla go to your current profile. Paste the folder searchplugins in it, next to all the other files like bookmarks.html. Then start Firefox again. Are they present now? If not, close Firefox again and delete everything in your profile EXCEPT for the following files: bookmarks.html, prefs.js, user.js, cookies.txt, history.dat, hostperm.1, signons.txt, key3.db and the folder chrome. Rename the folder extensions. Then start Firefox. Problem solved? Then close Firefox again, rename your folder extensions back and start Firefox. If your searchplugins are still there, an extension was not the culprit. Hope this will help.
thanks deleting all the files did the trick
