I have many RSS configured in TB 1.5, I have been reading them normally.
But, in year 2006, TB does not download any new RSS items.

In all my RSS Subscriptions, the last item always says 31-dec-2005

Reproducible: Always
interesting, all of mine are frozen at 1/3/2006

do you also get the same weirdness where it freezes when trying to verfify a new feed?

im on XP with 1.5rc1
On Comment #1, I don't see any freeze in TB while checking new updates on the RSS subscriptions.
Also, please try the latest RC build, that is, 15RC2

Yes, I see this freeze. I added a new RSS and it freeze in "Verifying ...".
If I click on the "+" of another folder, it freeze for a few seconds and then responds.

It would be nice to find a way to reproduce this bug, I found many people in the forums of mozillazine having this issue also.
Summary: RSS Account in TB 1.5 does not update in 2006 → RSS Account in TB 1.5RC2 does not update in 2006
I solved this problem by moving all the messages from a big folder a folder in a new Account.

Steps:
- create a new RSS & Blog account
- Export your RSS in the old account
- Import your RSS in the new account
- The new account does not work either
- Move all messages from all you big folders
- The old account start working

When I moved all messages from a big folder that I have, the problem was
solved. I had 11500 messages in that big folder.

Maybe this bug is related to having 11000+ messages in a folder?
I have this bug, too. I'm not sure if it's related to 2006 since I just installed the 1.5 version.
I couldn't have any new RSS, not even manually.

I have less than 11.000 in my 4 folders (even summing up the messages).

One strange thing that could be related to this bug is that the activity wheel start spinning at startup and never stops. I can download my mail, moving messages to folders... All seems normal, but the wheel is spinning.
I went back to 1.0.6.

I have OS X 1.3.9
this is definitely not 2006 related, i ended up blowing away my old subscriptions and readded them. it all worked really nicely until 1//26... now all my feeds have stopped updating again.

comment 3, i'll try that at some point to see if that fixes it for me. i suspected it might be a massive folder issue too as i had thousands of messages in my previous rss setup, but this time i dont have that many, probably about 2000.

It seems that the my feeds have been corrupted. Because I configure TB to "show only article summary...", but TB download still the web page of the RSS message.
I have to uncheck the checkbox, close the subscriptions window and then open it again and check the checkbox again.
After doing this, a few TB startups later fails again.

Is there a way to analyze the feeds configuration for corruptions?

Do we have a patch for this available soon. I too have many feeds, out of them some work perfectly and others don't. If we are talking about big folders then I have a big folder which has many feeds and also a sub folder with 2 feeds. The sub folders 2 feeds work. The parent folders a couple of feeds work and other don't.

I don't know but there is a lot of knowledge being lost, I guess.

Please release a patch atleast for this.

I have updated the Priority and Severity hope nobody minds it. Well the bug track did mind it.

Hi all

Me again. Does this limit have to do with no. of folders? around 25 to 30 of them? I don't have 11,000+ messages but I have around 36/7 folders incl. trash and around 10/11 are not updating.

i also conform this bug it is very annoying :( i got it when i upgrade from 1.5.0.0 to 1.5.0.2
i would just like to add few more information about this so maybe it can help fixing it...

as i said above as far as i can remember i got this bug after i upgraded from 1.5.0.0 to 1.5.0.2 (did not have it before).

first thing i notice is that the circle icon in the top right corner and the bar at the bottom, that shows up when TB is checking for new mails and feeds, would not stop to run.

after few days then i also noticed that my feed are not updating.

then i tried removing my feeds and adding them back, but it is not possible since TB hangs at the message "Verifying the RSS feed ...".

now i see that all three of the above issues seems to be connected (same problem/bug). for me it almost looks like TB would not be able to find the connection... all in all a very bad bug and at the moment there seems to be no good way to fix it :(
any errors in the JS console?
does anything suspicious appear on the js console (tools | javascript console) when feeds are getting checked?
yes, actualy quite a lot of errors in the js console...

it seems like for every feed that i am subscribed to (9 feeds) i get this two errors:

Error: not well-formed
Source File: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/saso/Application%20Data/Thunderbird/Profiles/wi0931iq.default/Mail/News%20&%20Blogs/feeditems.rdf
Line: 1, Column: 1
Source Code:
^

Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsIRDFService.GetDataSourceBlocking]"  nsresult: "0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)"  location: "JS frame :: chrome://messenger-newsblog/content/utils.js :: getItemsDS :: line 222"  data: no]
Source File: chrome://messenger-newsblog/content/utils.js
Line: 222

so together i have 18 such errors, plus this error at the end:

Error: Unknown namespace prefix 'html'. Ruleset ignored due to bad selector.
Source File: chrome://messenger/skin/messageBody.css
Line: 55
i would also like to add that i have also tried to delete all the messages from all the feeds and then compact the folder, since some users above have suggested that this might be the problem and yes i had allot of messages in this folders, but it did not fix the problem.

i was very happy using the TB, but this bug is really going on my nerves since it fully disables the use of RSS in TB :(

sbadov, could you try attaching your feeditems.rdf here? Josh, yours looks like it's all nulls - not sure what happened there.
Attached file bad/corrupted
1. just like from Josh, also mine seems to be all nulls

2. i have to correct myself, i have now tried to delete this file (feeditems.rdf) and it seems has fixed the problem. i am able to update the feeds and i am also able to add new ones (not hanging at the message "Verifying the RSS feed ..."). i still have to check out if i have so settings problems like some of the users above (and in the link to the forum) describe, but for now all seems to be ok :)
I see to many of these messages:
- Error: Expected end of value for property but found
- Error: Expected declaration but found '*'. Skipped to next declaration.
- Error: Error in parsing value for property 'cursor'. Declaration dropped.
- Error: Expected ',' in media list but found 'and'. Unrecognized at-rule or error parsing at-rule 'and'.
- Error: Unknown property 'filter'. Declaration dropped.
- Error: Expected ':' but found ';'. Declaration dropped.

Here is an example:
-------------------
Error: Expected end of value for property but found '100%'. Error in parsing value for property 'font-family'. Declaration dropped.

Line: 58

#ynsubnav li.on a{color:#ffffff ; font-weight:bold; text-decoration:none; font-family: normal 100% verdana, arial;}
-------------------

If those errors does help, let me know and I will post the full console errors.
Also, should I post my exported 'MyThunderbirdFeeds.opml' file?
*** Bug 342450 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
this seems to be a couple other people bumping up against this bug too.
apologies for the last post, my paste failed:

in firefox rdfs (which I assume are no different) all nulls is a sign that it was corrupted when the program was terminated before it was done writing to that particular rdf.
Assuming I'm correct about the corrupt rdfs the fix to bug 333907 will stop this from happening on shutdown on windows at least.
ALL, Is this problem gone for you?
