Another interesting thing we could do for 2.0 would be to make the address book more powerful by showing recent conversations in the address book preview pane for that particular contact.

This could be an interesting folder pane type view as well. Your folder pane shows a list of address book cards. Clicking one, shows messages from that contact int he thread pane.

I wonder if this is something we can interest Mark into working on since he's been doing all the good address book work lately.

I was envisioning something at the bottom of the address book card, entitled "Recent Conversations" followed by a simple tree list of the last 3 or 4 e-mails from that person. Double clicking on the list item would open up the message in the stand alone message window. We already have all the search JS/APIs hanging around that can do this, it just needs hooked up and added to the address book.

Although it'd be an interesting feature to write, I'm unlikely to get round to this in the Thunderbird 2.0 timeframe. I'm mainly concentrating on getting the back-end into better shape at the moment which will help us in the future and also a few UI bugs that are annoying to users and have been hanging around for ages.
